What is special about your parish? What is the charism of your parish? All Saints Catholic Church is a large, vibrant, multicultural faith community. The parish is known for its welcoming atmosphere, active ministries and focus on being people of service to others. Generations of families call All Saints their home; some have been parishioners for over 50 years, worshiping alongside individuals and families who have joined the community more recently.
All Saints is a short walk from the picturesque Old Town of Manassas. The parish also supports St. Gabriel’s Mission (established in 2017) to meet the needs of Manassas Park’s growing Catholic population. Together, the parish and the mission celebrate five masses in English and five masses in Spanish on Sundays.
What is one unique thing that visitors to your parish should do or see during their stay? Architecturally designed to unify all campus buildings, the Parish Courtyard features peaceful reflection spaces with statues of angels and saints, and a beautiful rendering of the Blessed Mother that serves as the focal point of the space. At the main entrance of the church is a remarkable three-panel stained glass window of the Communion of Saints, anchored by Christ the Good Shepherd, reminding everyone as they enter that we are part of the Communion of Saints.
Is there a particular way in which your parish encourages and supports faith formation? All Saints supports faith formation in all age groups through its parochial school (pre-K-eighth grade), religious education program, youth ministry activities for middle school through youth adults and Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children (RCIA/RCIC) . The Religious Education team oversees parish preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Parishioners are further encouraged to grow in their faith by participating in prayer groups, Bible studies, the Legion of Mary, that man is you, lunches for the elderly, apostolate wedding and more.
All Saints Prison Ministry brings a message of hope and God’s unconditional love to inmates at Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center through ministry of presence, celebration of liturgies, reception of sacraments and the study of faith and scripture.
How do you support the faith journey of the particular cultures represented in your parish? All Saints and St. Gabriel Mission offers RCIA courses in Spanish and hosts Spanish prayer groups, Bible studies and Stations of the Cross. Some All Saints Day celebrations incorporate cultural devotions. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe includes a midnight procession before Mass with music from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Choir. All Saints has a Filipino American prayer group and celebrates mass in Simbang Gabi. Special celebrations are planned with the Portuguese community for the feast of Our Lady of Fatima.
What would a visitor to your parish say and how do new parishioners get involved? Visitors often remark on the sense of welcome they feel at All Saints’ Day and the variety of ministries available to parishioners for fellowship and to further engage in their faith. The All Saints Welcome Committee contacts new parishioners and provides information on activities, events and volunteer opportunities.
What should we know about your clergy? Most All Saints clergy speak multiple languages. They are extremely caring and hardworking when caring for parishioners. During the pandemic, priests launched podcasts, created faith-based video series and shared evening prayer via social media, while the parish’s Facebook page and YouTube channel reached several thousand subscribers. .
Would you like to share anything else about your parish? The expression of faith through the performing arts is a hallmark of the parish. The All Saints Ministry of Music comprises nine choirs plus a hand bell choir and hosts the All Saints Concert Series, featuring local/national artists of classical and sacred music. The award-winning Upper Room Theater Ministry hosts a highly anticipated Winter Cabaret and Summer Musical each year that serves as a community-building event while raising funds to support youth mission trips. Upper Room Theater recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and plans to present West Side Story in July 2022.
The Bethany Food Pantry, operating under the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, is now in its 11th year of assisting food insecure people in the local community. Our parishioners actively support this ministry by volunteering their time and keeping the shelves stocked with food throughout the year.
